Batu Caves is one of Malaysia's most iconic attractions and is definitely worth including in your Kuala Lumpur city tour. Located about 13 kilometers north of the city center, this limestone hill houses a series of caves and cave temples and is a major site for Hindu pilgrimage, especially during the annual Thaipusam festival.
The main attraction here is the Temple Cave, which you can reach by climbing 272 colorful steps. At the base of the steps, you'll be greeted by the massive 42-meter-tall golden statue of Lord Murugan, the Hindu deity to whom the temple is dedicated.
Once inside the Temple Cave, explore the vast interior, where you'll find various shrines and ornate decorations. While at Batu Caves, you can also explore the Dark Cave (usually requires a guide and separate fee), which offers a more natural experience and a chance to see some unique cave fauna.
