On Monday, US President Joe Biden celebrated Diwali at the White House, an event attended by over 600 Indian Americans.
Diwali, also known as Deepawali, is among the most celebrated festivals for many Hindus worldwide. The festivities kicked off with Dhanteras on October 29, and One World Trade Center, the tallest building in the US, was slit up with colourful lights for Diwali celebrations. The World Trade Center looked beautiful as colourful lights created many formations, including diyas. Dilip Chauhan, the Deputy Commissioner of the Mayor's Office for International Affairs in New York City, said, "This year, Diwali is special for the first time in New York City's history. Schools will be closed on Friday, November 1, for the festival of Diwali." US President Joe Biden celebrated Diwali at the White House in an event attended by over 600 Indian Americans. "As President, I have been honoured to host the biggest Diwali receptions ever at the White House. To me, it means a great deal. As Senator, Vice President, and President, South Asian Americans have been key members of my staff,". US President said.
"From Kamala to Dr. Murthy to so many of you here today, I am proud that I kept my commitment to have an administration that looks like America," he added.
