The UAE has launched the Blue Visa, a 10-year residence visa for individuals contributing to environmental sustainability. Announced at the World Government Summit 2025, the first phase will award 20 thought leaders and innovators. The initiative supports the UAE's sustainability goals and broadens existing residency programs, enabling applications via an electronic platform.
The United Arab Emirates has introduced the first phase of the Blue Visa system, a 10-year residence visa curated for individuals contributing to environmental sustainability. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security, announced the initiative during the World Government Summit 2025 in Dubai, running from Februray 11 to 13.
In the initial phase, 20 sustainability thought leaders and innovators will be granted the Blue Visa. The visa targets individuals who have made prominent contributions to environmental protection, including members of international organisations, non-governmental groups, corporate leaders, global award winners, and researchers. Eligible individuals can directly apply through ICP or be nominated by UAE authorities.
The Blue Visa extends the UAE's residency programs, such as the Golden and Green Visas. Its implementation aligns with the country's broader sustainability initiatives.
The electronic application process allows government agencies in the sustainability sector to submit applications through the ICP's online platform. Dr Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted the UAE's commitment to global sustainability leadership.
"This initiative aims to leverage their contributions to achieve ambitious national goals and build a sustainable future for the people of the UAE and the world," she told Emirates News Agency WAM. Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of ICP, confirmed that the Blue Visa service will be available 24x7 through the authority's website and mobile application per approved guidelines.
