'Tourism And Peace’- UN Tourism Declared Theme For 2024

United Nations World Tourism Organisation announced the theme for World Tourism Day 2024 as ‘Tourism and Peace’.

The news was released by UNWTO which shared its statement saying 2024 will be the year to return to pre-pandemic scenarios. It further added that moving to an exceptional comeback, UNWTO has steered the direction of international and domestic travel, evolving its Programme of Work and moving even closer to its Members on the ground.

“It’s time to look ahead and build a sector that offers even more for even more people and communities while also focusing on this year’s World Tourism Day Theme: Tourism and Peace”, said the UNWTO statement. It further states that ‘Tourism’ only works between people. It is a vehicle to raise awareness, educate and transform societies for the better. And it builds bridges of understanding, in a world still in need to come closer, as reflected in the ‘Tourism Opens Minds’ initiative.

The catastrophic consequences of the Russian invasion continued to be felt, and UNWTO amplified tourism’s voice in solidarity with Ukraine. The connected humanitarian emergencies that emerged last year were eminent enough to bridge divisions and help international understanding, remaining more significant than ever.

Hence, in 2024 this message will take centre stage as the theme of World Tourism Day was declared as ‘Tourism and Peace.’
