Many of us are now inclined towards rest and a peaceful experience in vacations. We can see trends shifting away from gadgets to destinations where sleep can be harboured.
Visitors travel for quality time, fun, adventure, and experiences. But now ‘Sleep Tourism’ is an emerging trend seen on the tourism map. This trend is growing amongst those coming to the United Arab Emirates. A recent study has found that those living in the Emirates rank a good night’s sleep quite high and search for relevant destinations.
Sleep Tourism is a specific niche where visitors seek revitalisation, relaxation, and an immersive sleep-centric experience while they travel. According to industry experts, such preferences are emerging as visitors want to snap from screens and gadgets for some time while on their journey.
A survey stated that people in UAE are 80% more conscious about having a good sleep and investing a good amount of time in restoring and regulating good habits. A healthy number of UAE residents said that they sleep well when they are on a holiday or a vacation.
According to Julie Mallon, a UAE sleep expert and founder of Nurture 2 Sleep, said that there was a 1,110 per cent increase in searches for sleep retreats in February 2023. It reflects where the demand is going.
Julie Mallon stated that one of the biggest reasons for such an inclination is the pandemic. She stated that across the globe people were hit by the pandemic on various levels and are still trying to recover, making sleep their priority. She added that people used to look only for fun and adventure while on holiday. But now the list is added to sleep as well. She also revealed that jet lag is another reason as the human clock gets disturbed when geological presence changes.
