In an exciting development, Sharjah plans to build a new passenger train station seamlessly connected to the national Etihad Rail network. The station will be strategically located near the University of Sharjah, serving as a vital transportation hub for thousands of students and commuters.
The station will rise near the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi House, adjacent to the University City of Sharjah. By linking the main railway track to this station, Etihad Train's daily passenger traffic is expected to surge to 14,000. This is particularly significant, as it will cater to university students from all corners of the country.
The rail extension will traverse essential facilities, landmarks, and population centers within Sharjah, fostering better connectivity for residents and travelers. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Etihad Rail Company, emphasized that this initiative strengthens the connection between residential communities in the Emirates. Moreover, it facilitates seamless travel across stations, considering Sharjah's pivotal role in linking Dubai with other northern emirates.
The project aligns with the UAE's vision to develop safe, reliable, and efficient passenger train services, connecting cities and population centers nationwide. The UAE National Rail Network is currently under construction and spans over 900 kilometres. Once completed, it will connect 11 cities and regions, including Al Sila, Fujairah, Al Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Al Dhaid, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.
This ambitious endeavour promises improved transportation options and underscores the nation's commitment to modern infrastructure and connectivity.
