The Program Involves Hosting Personalities from Different Countries to Interact with Immigration Officers at the Airport, Land, and Seaports.
Dubai's General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has announced the launch of a new initiative, 'For the World,' to provide a more personalized and culturally sensitive experience for travellers from various nationalities. The program includes inviting influential personalities from different countries to interact with immigration officers at Dubai's airport, land, and seaports. These guests will educate the officers on their nationalities' customs, traditions, and preferences.
In a press conference on Monday, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA, highlighted the uniqueness of the initiative. "We do not go off script; we go out of the ordinary," he said. "In the 'For the World' initiative, we will host a guest from a different country to interact with the employees of GDRFA, whether at airports, land, or seaports, to explain their culture and assist the whole experience from their point of view."
Each guest will provide insights into their culture, highlighting appropriate and inappropriate behaviours from their perspective. This initiative is part of a broader effort to train GDRFA employees to deliver services tailored to each traveller's unique background and preferences. "We were focusing on training the employee to provide excellent service to the traveller. However, the service should also be appropriate for each traveller. The customs and traditions of people must be familiar to employees," Al Marri noted.
The initiative's first phase featured Yani Takashi from Japan, who wore a traditional kimono, offering a practical demonstration of Japanese customs and etiquette. Al-Marri described the experience as exciting and educational, providing hands-on learning at Dubai Airport. He emphasized the importance of understanding diverse cultures to enhance the visitor experience in the UAE.
Building on the success of the Japanese representation, the GDRFA plans to host a guest from Korea who will don traditional Korean attire. Al Marri mentioned that Takashi's observations were insightful, revealing cultural nuances that might be overlooked. The initiative includes five days between each nationality's visit to review and integrate the feedback received thoroughly.
As part of this initiative, the GDRFA also intends to teach employees key phrases and welcoming words from each represented country, further enhancing the personalized experience for travellers arriving in Dubai.
