Europe remains a high-demand spot for travellers as the travel agents' reports are booked until the end of August.
UAE residents planning to travel to Europe for the upcoming Eid Al Adha break or summer vacation may find getting an appointment for Schengen visas difficult. As per the industry experts, appointment slots are booked till the end of August, but some may become available due to many factors. Residents would get up to five days off in mid-June to celebrate Eid Al Adha. Schools would close for the summer vacation in July-August, the most popular travel time for residents. When asked whether the appointment slots would be available before the summer break, VFS Global's top authority said that visa appointments are mirrored in real-time on its website.
"Europe continues to be a high-demand destination for travellers from the UAE, especially for summer gateways, and it is imperative to plan and book in advance for ensuring a hassle-free journey," said Monaz Billimoria, the regional head of the VFS Global UAE. "The way tickets, hotels, and packages are booked in advance visas should be given the same if not more priority while planning the holidays."
Increase in Demand
According to the online travel agency Musafir, travel demand to Europe for the summer vacation season has increased by 40 per cent this year compared to 2023. European destinations, especially Schengen countries, are experiencing a surge in demand. Citing data from its platform, the travel agency said: "Where most are travelling to the popular Schengen countries, 20-25 per cent are excited about exploring the newer territories."
All those residents who have just started planning their trip to Europe for the summer may find it challenging to secure a visa appointment. "Most embassies are currently offering appointments starting in September 2024. However, it is not impossible to find an appointment," said Ramy Badr, sales head of Dopamine Travels. "Several embassies periodically release a limited number of slots. For example, the Czech Republic embassy recently opened appointments in late June and July. Therefore, residents should regularly check the VFS website for new slots".
He added that appointments are usually released during early or late hours, so consistent monitoring is essential. "Alternatively, residents can seek our assistance; we can help track and secure appointments." Anir Chatterji, Europe, Middle East, and Africa Immigration Partner at Vialto Partners, said it is "very challenging" to get an appointment ahead of the summer break.
Warning of Frauds
VFS Global has cautioned residents against fraudulent entities that may charge applicants money for scheduling appointments. The company does not charge any fee for booking appointments on its official website, which caters to visa applications. Moreover, some governments require pre-payment of the service fee when booking an appointment. This payment will be reimbursed or deducted in the application process. This step is to ensure genuine travellers use the appointment booking and the system is safe from misuse by fraudulent entities," he added in an advisory.
