The Turkiye Tourism Board said that the destination has seen a remarkable surge in tourism from India.
In the first five months of 2024, the number of Indian visitors reached 1,26,000, representing a 34% surge compared to the same period in 2023. The tourism board said this surge is notable against the backdrop of 2023, wherein Turkiye invited 2,74,000 Indian tourists for the entire year. As per the tourism board, Indian tourists strongly prefer various tourism experiences in Turkiye. "Several regions and cities in Turkiye have seen a notable increase in Indian tourists. Istanbul, renowned for its historical landmarks, cheerful culture, and unique gastronomic experiences, remains a top destination," the Turkiye Tourism Board said in a statement. "Cappadocia, famous for its unique landscapes and hot air balloon rides, has also attracted many Indian visitors. Coastal areas, such as Antalya and Bodrum, are known for their remarkable beaches and luxury resorts and are also popular for unique wedding ceremonies, honeymoons, luxurious celebrations and events. Other destinations like Pamukkale, Izmir, and Alacati are known for their beauty and historical sites, drawing significant numbers of tourists," the board added.
Earlier this year, Turkiye Tourism concluded a six-city India roadshow in collaboration with the Travel Agents Association of India. The board said this initiative aimed to strengthen ties between the Indian travel trade and Turkish tourism. Turkiye Tourism Board said it has continued to work closely with Indian travel agents, with initiatives like the recently concluded OTOAI fam tour playing a prominent role in promoting tourism. Held from June 30 to July 6, 2024, this initiative was dedicated to highlighting the attractions of Turkiye to Indian travel agents. A total of 40 OTOAI members from across India participated in this endeavour, representing diverse regions and tourism interests, the board said.
