Kaan Kavaloglu, the President of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association, said that the hoteliers' business is going well, and their hotels are doing well.
While hotels and tradesmen from different regions of Turkey stated that they had a season and were operating with low occupancy, Kaan Kavaloglu, President of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association, drew a different picture. Speaking at the AKTOB monthly dinner meeting, Kavaloglu said that things were going well at the moment.
"Our business is good. Our hotels are full."
Kaan Kavaloglu said that tourism professionals are like shopkeepers and that when things are good, they say they are good. When they are bad, they say they are wrong so that the state can solve the problems; they said, "I want to say that while our Minister is where our business is good, and our hotels are full, we had some problems with occupancy at the starting of July, but the situation is good now. There is no rule that we will always be 100 per cent full."
Our number of tourists and tourism revenues is increasing.
Kavaloglu claimed that Turkey's tourist numbers and income are increasing and said, "We are in a very valuable and difficult geography. Despite all this, we continue our tourism activities very successfully. Our number of tourists and the tourism income we earn are increasing. We will reach our year-end and 2028 target of 100 million tourists and 100 billion dollars in tourism income under the leadership of our Minister."
The tourism sector needs a free exchange rate policy.
Kavaloglu, who said that Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy would not victimize tourism professionals regarding the inflation accounting expected to affect the tourism sector where costs are rapidly increasing, said, "We are asking for your help on this issue. At the same time, the fixed exchange rate is challenging us. We are all citizens of this country, but tourism, which feeds 54 sectors, needs a free exchange rate policy. We hope that our tax burden will not increase even more shortly. Because we were getting our chance to compete by not increasing prices this much, at this point, we want our state to always be by our side."
"Those who go to the Greek islands should share photos of their hotels."
Addressing the Turkish citizens who go to the Green Island because they are more affordable than Turkey and complain about the high cost of hotels in Turkey, the AKTOB president said, "We are not marketing and promotion activities. I just want to request our citizens who go on vacation. We are responsible for our marketing and promotion activities. I just want to request to our citizens who go on vacation to Greece. They should request our citizens who go on vacation to Greece. They should share the photos of the hotels they stayed in with us so that we can compare them with our hotels."
