Airlines in the Asia-Pacific region is showing increasing confidence in the post-pandemic recovery, with Singapore Airlines taking the lead by adding more flights to Beijing.
With most airlines operating at or above pre-pandemic levels, capacity is significantly increased on high-demand routes such as between Singapore and China. Singapore Airlines has announced the launch of daily flights between Singapore and Beijing Daxing International Airport, adding to its existing services to Beijing Capital International Airport.
Two Options in Beijing
Singapore Airlines has revealed details about its new service between Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) and Beijing Daxing International (PKX). This daily service will commence on November 11, 2024, pending regulatory approvals, providing an option for travellers heading to the southern part of Beijing, including the Hebei and Tianjin regions.
In addition to the new service to Beijing Daxing, Singapore Airlines will increase its flight frequency to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK). Starting on August 5, 2024, the airline will raise its weekly services from Singapore Changi to Beijing Capital from 18 to 21 flights.
With these additional flights to Beijing Daxing and the increased services to Beijing Capital, Singapore Airlines will operate 28 weekly flights to Beijing from November 2024. The Singapore Airlines Group, including its low-cost carrier Scoot, will serve 24 destinations in mainland China, with SIA flying to eight and Scoot to 17 destinations.
Singapore Airlines will deploy its Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners for the Singapore to Beijing Daxing route. These aircraft have 337 seats, featuring 36 in business class and 301 in the economy cabin. Singapore Airlines Acting Senior Vice President Marketing Planning Dai Haoyu emphasised the importance of China as a critical market for the airline group.
"This new flight to Beijing Daxing allows SIA to offer an additional daily service to Beijing, a popular destination for tourist and business travellers. With 24 destinations in the group's mainland China network, we offer some of the best options and connections for travel between Singapore and China and beyond."
