Saudi Arabia's tourism industry is booming, offering opportunities for workers in one of the most dynamic industries. Public data from the General Authority for Statistics showed robust year-on-year employment growth of 5.1 per cent in the second quarter of 2024, reaching 959,175 employees, including an increase of 1.57 per cent in the third year. This growth sector continues to grow.
A key driver of this expansion is Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to establish the Kingdom as a major global tourist destination by 2030, attracting 150 million visitors a year, 4 per cent of whom are expatriates. With tourism and industry accounting for 5.7 per cent of the total workforce and 8.6 per cent of the private sector, the industry is emerging as a significant component of the country's economy
The hotel industry also experienced strong growth, with occupancy up 55.4 per cent and average guest stays up 17.6 per cent to 5.2 nights.
Despite the slight decline in average daily room rates to SR725.5, competitive pricing reflects the industry's rapid expansion and availability.
This tourism growth contributed 11.5 percent of GDP by 2023, generating revenue of US$1.5 billion, or $36 billion.
The region is expected to account for 16 per cent of GDP by 2034, underlining its key role in Saudi Arabia's economic transformation. With growth accelerating, now is the time for businesses to take advantage of the opportunities in Saudi Arabia's booming tourism sector.
