In a fillip of tourism travel and business activities in the Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh, the DGA on Modya issued a license for the Satna airport, making it the 7th airport in MP. The formal inauguration of the airport and commencement of flights are set to start soon.
Initial operations will be accommodating 19-seater Aircraft with the potential for future expansion. Which will be based on passenger demand and commercial viability. The airport's development aligns with the government's UDAN scheme to enhance regional air connectivity.
The modernized Satna Airport will operate under Visual Flight Rules conditions and be equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and security systems. The airport's strategic location will serve the entire Rewa division and nearby districts. Situated in Satna district, approximately 520 km northeast of Bhopal, this pre-independence facility was previously managed by the state's public works department. The Airports Authority of India has now assumed operational and maintenance responsibilities.
AAI commenced the airport's development in January 2024, constructing a 1200 x 30 runway, modern terminal building, ATC tower, apron, taxiway, and fire station. Security installations include X-ray machines, ETD, CCTV systems, DFMD, HHMD, communication equipment, and RT-SET, ensuring safe operations. Passenger amenities include check-in counters, surveillance systems, Flight Information Display Systems, a PA System, and a Reserve Lounge to enhance the traveller experience. Local businesses anticipate increased trade opportunities through improved air connectivity. The airport's operation is expected to generate employment opportunities in aviation and allied sectors. Tourism potential in the region could see prominent growth with regular air services. The airport will initially focus on connecting to major cities within Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring states.
